Science Express is a unique science exhibition on a 16-coach, fully AC train, traveling across India. This exhibition showcases cutting-edge research in Science. An Indo-German collaborative project; it was flagged off on 30 October 2007 by Honorable Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh and German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel. This innovative exhibition has received an unprecedented response and created four National Records. During its three phases, till April 2010, it has been visited by over 51 lakh people, mostly students. So far, it has traveled over 50,000 km, covering 150 locations, during its 600 exhibition days.
This state-of-the-art mobile exhibition attempts to develop scientific temper amongst the masses and encourages students to pursue higher studies and careers in science. It hosts interactive exhibits developed by Max Planck Society, Germany; Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India and Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre (VASCSC), Ahmedabad. It also houses the ‘Joy of Science’ hands-on lab for conducting Science & Mathematics experiments, as well as exhibitions on Climate Change and India's heritage in Science & Technology.

Valediction Date: 16 June 2011 |
A valediction function was organized on the concluding day of Science Express Phase IV exhibition. The function was attended by the Science Express team and well-wishers. Mr. Rakesh Behal, DRM, Ahmedabad was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The dignitaries present on the occasion included Mr. Kartikeya Sarabhai, Chairman, Standing Committee, VASCSC; Mr. Chanchodia, Sr. DCM; Mr. Amit Kumar Gupta, Sr. DME; Mr. Chander Mohan, Director, NCSTC, Govt. of India and Mr. Dilip Surkar, Executive Director, VASCSC. The dignitaries imparted words of encouragement and congratulations to the team. The team members shared their special experiences they had while traveling with Science Express, following which, the team members were felicitated by the dignitaries. The valedictory concluded with a specially prepared film and presentation on ‘Science Express’. |

The fourth phase of Science Express concluded at Gandhinagar which also coincided with the completion of 800 days of the exhibition since 30 October 2007. It was welcomed by students and teachers from Gandhinagar, in the presence of Mr. Chander Mohan, Director, NCSTC and Mr. Dilip Surkar, Executive Director, VASCSC. Mr. Rakesh Behal, Divisional Railway Manager, Ahmedabad Division and Mr. C. V. Som, IAS, Commissioner of Schools, Gujarat State also visited the Science Express. The Joy of Science lab received 1188 participants whereas 664 students participated in the Climate change platform activity. |

The Science Express was welcomed at Porbandar by Mr. S. K. Mishra, Sr. Divisional Railway Manager, Bhavnagar Division. Mr. G. B. Joshi, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer, Bhavnagar Division and Mr. Vimal Joshi, Station Manager, Porbandar Railway Station were also present at the welcome ceremony. The Joy of Science activities were popular among visitors and 1048 students performed experiments inside the lab. 1108 students participated in the Climate Change platform activity. 21 students participated in career counselling. |

The exhibition witnessed a huge rush of visitors at Rajkot. The Joy of Science lab activities were conducted with 2764 students. The Climate Change platform activity received 1946 students. 34 students were provided with career counseling. The Science Express team visited Modi School and conducted the Outreach Programme with 220 students. |

The Science Express was welcomed by students of Maatruchaya High School in presence of Mr. H. L. Jonwal, Station Manager. The exhibition crossed 63 lakh visitors mark in its four phases. Science Express also celebrated World Environment Day by providing information on causes of global warming, preserving our earth system, and preventive measures for reducing global warming effect. The Joy of Science lab received 1437 participants whereas the Climate Change platform activity was conducted with 570 students. 97 students were counselled on Careers in Science. |

The Science Express was welcomed at Abu Road by Mr. Sanjay Arora, Dy. GM, North Western Railways, Jaipur. Mr. Suraj Prakash, Sr. DME, Abu Road, Diesel Shed and Mr. Leelaram Meena, Station Manager, Abu Road Railway Station were present on the occasion. The Joy of Science lab received 527 students whereas Climate Change platform activity received 157 students. |
