From Kumbakonam, SECAS next moved to Pudukkottai. It was welcomed by a group of school students. Mr. S. K. Garg, DRM, Madurai, Mr. Jayanti Murali, (IFS), Additional Director, Department of Environment, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, visited SECAS along with other officials and appreciated the efforts of the team.

Platform Activity

On the first day of the halt, owing to the festival of Mahashivratri, the schools and colleges remained closed; hence very few students visited SECAS. However, from second day onwards, huge rush of visitors was seen at the platform. Altogether, in three days, SECAS received more than 34,000 people including 18,484 students. On the last day, students from over 100 educational institutions visited SECAS and also participated in its complementary activities in JOS Lab, Kids Zone and Platform Activities.

On the last day of the halt, SECAS team conducted a Teachers Orientation Session emphasizing on ‘Hands-on Approaches’ for teaching Science and Maths. In this, models like ‘Newton’s Cradle’, ‘Food Pyramid’, ‘Boyle’s Law’, ‘Total Internal Reflection’, ‘Structure of DNA’ etc. were demonstrated. Additionally, a session on ‘Fun with Chemistry’ was also held, in which different concepts were demonstrated in the form of magical tricks. In the end, discussions on ‘ 2016 -International Year of Pulses’, ‘DST and DBT Fellowship Programmes’ and ‘Climate Change and Sustainable Development’ were held. It was well appreciated by the participants.

At Pudukkottai, SECAS crossed 18.5 lakh total visitors and 25,000 teachers’ mark. Besides, JOS Lab crossed 55,000 students’ participation and Platform Activity crossed 1.5 lakh students’ participation in the current phase.

Teams from NGC, Bharat Scouts and Guides and Railway Protection Force, Madurai Division, extended their support in coordination of SECAS activities at Pudukkottai.

After a successful three-day exhibition at Pudukkottai, the team once again packed up and made preparations for their journey to the next station – Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.
