Platform Activity at Vellore

SECAS received an overwhelming response at Vellore, with over 37,000 people, including more than 17,000 students from 93 different educational institutions visiting the exhibition train in 3 days. The visitors not only appreciated the theme of the train but were also fascinated by the content and the way the exhibits were explained by the on-board SECAS team.

Apart from the exhibition, the students also enthusiastically participated in JOS Lab, Kids Zone and Platform Activity. On the last day of the exhibition at Vellore, SECAS team conducted a Teachers’ Orientation session for primary and secondary maths and science teachers. In this, a discussion on ‘Understanding Education Pedagogy through Hands-on Approach’ was held for the participating teachers, and different case studies were discussed. It was well appreciated by the teachers.

At Vellore, SECAS team celebrated ‘World Wildlife Day’ (3 March 2016) by conducting different activities in JOS Lab and at the Platform. It included talks on ‘Wildlife Conservation for Sustainable Development’ and ‘How Local communities can play a positive role in helping to curb illegal wildlife trade’. A short documentary on ‘Wildlife Crime’ was also showcased to the students. SECAS team also enacted a skit on ‘Wildlife Crime’ highlighting the issue of human-wildlife conflict. Besides, competitions like Poster making, Essay writing, Logo designing, Face painting, Slogan writing and Quiz were also organized for students on the theme ‘Wildlife Conservation’ in which the winners were also felicitated by SECAS team.

Local team from ENVIS centre, extended their support in coordination of SECAS activities at Vellore.

After a successful three-day exhibition at Vellore, the team once again packed up and made preparations for their journey to the next station –Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu.
