From Puducherry, SECAS II next moved to Attur in Tamil Nadu. SECAS II was welcomed by Shri Hari Shankar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division and other railway officials. They visited the exhibition train and interacted and appreciated the SECAS II team.

At Attur, SECAS II received great response from students, children of different age group and general public. Altogether in three days of halt, more than 61,000 people including students from 150 education institutions visited SECAS II. Along with the exhibition train, the complementary activities of JOS Lab, Kids Zone and Platform also received enthusiastic response.

At Attur, SECAS II team conducted Teachers Orientation Session for a group of 22 secondary school teachers on “Hands-on Approaches for Teaching Science and Mathematics”. Moreover, some activities of Science Behind Miracles were also demonstrated and their underlying principles were discussed with the participating teachers.

SECAS II team also conducted Outreach Activities for more than 1500 students on first and third day of its halt at Attur. The on-board team briefed students about Science Express and its journey so far and held discussions with them on ‘Global Warming, Climate Change and its Impact’. The team also informed students about different fellowship schemes of DBT and DST to pursue higher education. Along with these, the SECAS II team also demonstrated models and activities based on science and held session on ‘Astronight’. The activities were very much appreciated by the participating students.

ENVIS Centre at Department of Environment, State Government of Tamil Nadu (TNENVIS), Shri Balmohan R, Director, Activity Educator, Bengaluru, and Shri Shiv Kumar, Social Worker, Attur extended their support in coordination of SECAS II activities and school visits at Attur.

At Attur, SECAS II crossed 12 lakh total visitors’ mark in current phase. Additionally, Platform Activity crossed 75,000 students’ participation, JOS Lab crossed 40,000 students’ participation and Platform Activity crossed 45,000 children’s participation in current phase.

With this, the halt of SECAS II at Attur came to a successful end and the team packed up and made preparations for their departure to the next station – Karur.
