From Thrissur, SECAS II next moved to Kannur. Ms. E. P. Latha, Mayor, Ms. Deepali Mihir, Advocate and Counsellor, Kannur, along with other officials welcomed SECAS II. The distinguished guests visited the exhibition train and appreciated the efforts of the team.
During the three day halt of SECAS II at Kannur, Shri Mir Mohammed Ali, District Collector, Shri K V Sumesh, President, Kannur district Panchayat and Shri V Jayaprakash, the innovator of the Energy Efficient Biomass Stove also visited the exhibition train and interacted with the on-board science communicators.
Despite heavy rains and a Sunday in between, a good number of children accompanied by their guardians, students and general public visited SECAS II during its three day halt at Kannur.Altogether in three days, more than 20,000 visitors including students from 91 different educational institutions visited SECAS II at Kannur.
Along with the exhibition train, Platform Activity, JOS Lab and Kids Zone also received enthusiastic participation at Kannur. SECAS II team conducted a session on ‘Science Behind Miracles’ as part of the Platform Activity where they demonstrated activities ‘Floating Pot’, ‘Blood in Lemon’, ‘Burning of Coconut’ etc. Moreover, the on-board team also explained the scientific reason behind some of the practices likes ‘Not to chew Tulsi Leaves’, ‘Not to step out of House during a Solar Eclipse’ etc.
At Kannur, SECAS II team conducted a Teachers Orientation Session for a group of Secondary School Teachers. The participating teachers were oriented on using different ‘Hands-on Approaches’ for teaching science and mathematics by the on-board team. The team also held a discussion on ‘How to build Scientific Temper among Students’ with the participating teachers where they demonstrated different Teaching Learning Material for effective and fun-filled learning of students.
With this, the halt of SECAS II at Kannur came to a successful end and the team packed up and made preparations for their departure to the next station – Madgaon in Goa.
