From Attur, SECAS II next moved to Karur in Tamil Nadu. SECAS II was welcomed by Shri S. Surya Prakash, Additional District Collector, along with Shri S. Balasubramanyam, SDM, and Shri P Ayyannan, Chief Education Officer, Karur. Shri Chandra Pal, ADRM, Shri M. Prabhakaran, Sr. DEE, Shri T. C. Johnson, Deputy Chief EE, Salem Division and S. Mary, Inspector of Matriculation School, Dindigul, also visited the exhibition train. The eminent dignitaries interacted and appreciated the SECAS II team.
During three days halt at Karur, SECAS II received an overwhelming response from students, children of different age group and general public. Altogether in three days of halt, more than 51,000 people including students from 215 education institutions visited SECAS II. The last day of halt at Karur, 22 June, turned out to be historic, with Platform Activity registering 6,230 participants –the highest in a single day, for all the phases of Science Express.
Along with the exhibition train, the complementary activities of JOS Lab, Kids Zone and Platform also received enthusiastic response at Karur. In Kids Zone, children enjoyed making science based models like ‘Whirling Fan’, ‘Straw Petal Fan’, ‘Clap in the Air’, ‘Dancing Capsule’, ‘Balancing Man’, ‘Flying Fish’, and ‘Balloon Spinner’ with the help of SECAS II team. The on-board team also involved the kids in discussions on ‘Climate Change’, ‘My Positive Actions’ and ‘Green Pledge’.
At Karur, Tamil Nadu State ENVIS Center, Madras University ENVIS Centre, SACON ENVIS Centre, ENVIS Centre on Forest Genetic Resources, Tree Improvement, members of the Bharat Scout and Guides, Rotary Club and Railway Protection Force, extended their voluntary support in coordination of SECAS II activities.
At Karur, SECAS II crossed 12.5 lakh total visitors, 2 lakh student’s visitation and the Platform Activity also crossed 90,000 students’ participation in the current phase.
With this, the halt of SECAS II at Karur came to a successful end and the team packed up and made preparations for their departure to the next station – Kodaikanal Road
