From Rampur, SECAS II next moved to Kasganj City in Uttar Pradesh. It was welcomed by Mr. Sudhir Mishra, District Coordinator, Srava Siksha Abhiyaan, Mr. Jayant Gupta, District Coordinator, Science Club and Ms. Geeta Verma, BSA, Kasganj. Several officials from the district administration including Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Addl. District Magistrate, Mr. Sunil Kumar Yadav, SDM, Mr. Niwas Mishra, CDO and Mr. Harendra Yadav, Adl. SP, visited SECAS II and praised the effort of DST and MoEFCC in spreading awareness about Climate Action among students and general public through SECAS.
At Kasganj, there were comparatively less number of school visits to SECAS, due to the ongoing exams. However, a huge rush of general visitors was seen on all the three days. Most of the children accompanied their parents and guardians to see the exhibition train. Apart from the seeing the exhibition, students and children enthusiastically participated in the activities of JOS Lab and Kids Zone.
At Kasganj, SECAS II was stationed at a low line platform, which made it difficult for the visitors, especially small children to enter into the exhibition train. Besides, in the absence of a proper platform with a shade, it was not possible for the team to conduct Platform Activity. However, the team conducted an Outreach Activity was at NER English Medium School, Kasganj on ‘Model Rocketry’ and ‘Science Behind Miracle’. For a group of primary teachers from Science Club of Kasganj, the team also conducted a Teachers’ Orientation session ‘Hands-on Approach for Teaching Science and Maths’
On the last day of the exhibition at Kasganj, SECAS II team celebrated ‘World Sparrow Day’ by conducting different activities in JOS Lab and at Platform. They made special arrangements at Platform no. 1 that was adjacent to the entrance of the railway station. The team conducted sessions on ‘Importance of Celebrating World Sparrow Day’, ‘Reasons for Dwindling Sparrows’, ‘Habitat of Sparrows’, ‘Identification of Birds from their Calls’ etc. A special signature campaign was also organized to make children and students aware of the steps to save sparrows. It was well appreciated by all.
At Kasganj, SECAS II crossed 2 lakh total visitors’ mark and Kids Zone also crossed 10,000 children’s participation in the current phase.
After a successful three day halt at Kasganj, the team once again packed up and started their journey to the next station – Khalilabad in Uttar Pradesh.
