The next station of halt for SECAS II was Kayankulam in Kerala. SECAS II was welcomed by Shri Vargis Kuruvilla, Station Manager, Kayankulam, along with other railway officials. They interacted and appreciated the efforts of the team.

SECAS II exhibition was scheduled for four days at Kayankulam. Due to rains, there was comparatively lesser number of students visiting SECAS II. However, good number of general public and children of different age group visited the exhibition train. Altogether in four days of halt, more than 19,000 visitors including students from 67 different educational institutions visited SECAS II at Kayankualm.

Along with the exhibition train, Kids Zone, JOS Lab, Platform Activity also received enthusiastic response at Kayankulam. As a part of Platform Activity, the SECAS II team demonstrated ‘Science Behind Miracles’ activities like ‘Levitation of a Pot in the Air’, Walking on Fire’, ‘Creating Holy Ash’, ‘Burning Camphor on Palm and Tongue’ and explained the science behind these magical activities.

At Kayankulam, SECAS II team organized Teacher Orientation Session for a group of primary school teachers of DIET. The on-board team had a discussion on ‘Hands-on Approaches’ for teaching science and mathematics with the participating teachers. The team also demonstrated different models and activities which can be useful in classroom teaching for better understanding of concepts by the students.

SECAS II team conducted Outreach Activity for more than 100 students of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Kayankulam. The on-board team began the session by giving brief introduction about SECAS and its coaches and contents followed by demonstration of different models and activities. The SECAS II team also held an interactive session with participating students on topics like ‘Role of plants on Global Warming’ and ‘Mitigating the climate change’. The activities were very much appreciated by the participating students.

At Kayankulam, SECAS II crossed 8,000 students’ participation in the Outreach Activity.

With this, the halt of SECAS II at Kayankulam came to a successful end and the team packed up and made preparations for their departure to the next station – Thrissur.
