From Fakiragram, SECAS II next moved to Lumding in Assam. It was welcomed by Mr. P. K. Jain, DRM, Lumding Division, NFR, along with other officials from the Railways.
During its two-day halt at Lumding, SECAS II received over 5,000 visitors including students from around 30 different educational institutions. Apart from seeing the exhibition, the students and children enjoyed participating in the complementary activities of SECAS II.
In the Kids Zone the children made science based models like ‘Flying Fish’, ‘Whirling Fan’, ‘Rainbow’, ‘String Phone’, ‘Dancing Capsule’, Clap in the Air’, ‘Static Straw’ and ‘Injection to Balloon’ etc. with the help of SECAS II team members. On the other hand in JOS Lab, the students performed experiments and activities like ‘Understanding IR Detector’, ‘Metal Detectors’, ‘Napier Strip’, ‘Neutralization Reaction’, ‘Energy Transformation’ etc. Besides, the students also learnt making temporary slides of onion cells and observed them under the microscope.
For the students at the platform, the SECAS II team conducted different activities based on the focal theme of the train i.e. Climate Change. Games like ‘Rope and Ladder’, ‘Find Me’, and ‘Bioaccumulation’, along with a general thought provoking discussions on the ‘Causes and Effects of Climate Change’ and ‘Climate Action’ were also organized for the students, in which they enthusiastically participated and shared their views. Additionally, SECAS II team also demonstrated different scientific principles like Centre of Gravity, Pressure and Force, Momentum, Laws of Motion etc. behind our daily activities, through different models.
After a successful two day halt at Lumding, the team once again packed up and made preparations for their departure to the next station – Agartala in Tripura.
