From Madgaon, SECAS II next moved to Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. SECAS II was welcomed by Hon’ble Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu, through video conferencing. He addressed the team and appreciated their efforts in spreading awareness about environmental issues pertaining to climate change across the country.

Distinguished dignitaries including Shri Ravindra Waikar, Hon’ble Minister of State (MoS) for Housing, Higher and Technical Education, and Guardian Minister of Ratnagiri district, Shri Vinayak Raut, MP, (Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg), Ms. Sneha Sawant, District President, Shri Pradeep P, Deputy Commissioner, Shri Bala Saheb Nikam, Regional Railway Manager, graced the occasion. Shri Uday Ravindra Samant, MLA, Shri Manjunath G, Regional Traffic Manager, and Shri M K Sukate, Tahasildar, Ratnagiri also visited SECAS II and appreciated the efforts of the on-board team.

During its three day halt at Ratnagiri, SECAS II received great response from general public, students and children of different age groups. Despite heavy monsoon showers, over 22,000 visitors, including 2,658 students from 46 different educational institutions visited SECAS II.

Along with the exhibition, the complementary activities in JOS Lab, Kids Zone and Platform Activity also received enthusiastic participation at Ratnagiri. As a part of Platform Activity, the on-board team conducted an interesting session on ‘Science Behind Miracles’ where they demonstrated activities like ‘Walking on Burning Coal’, ‘Fire without Matchstick’, ‘Exuding Blood from Hand’, ‘Red Lemon’ etc. and explained the scientific principles behind these activities. It was well appreciated by all.

In the Kids Zone, children made some of the very interesting science based models like ‘Parrot in the Cage’, ‘Balancing Butterfly’, ‘Acrobatic Capsule’, ‘Trumpet’, ‘Paper Whistle’, ‘Balloon Car’ and ‘Food Pyramid’ etc with the help of SECAS II team members. Kids also enjoyed solving mathematical brain teasers like ‘Tap-Tap’, ‘Parking Puzzle’ and ‘4x4 Square Puzzle’.

With this, the halt of SECAS II at Ratnagiri came to a successful end and the team packed up and made preparations for their departure to the next station – Sindhudurg.
