From Nangal Dam, SECAS II next moved to Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab. It was welcomed by Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia, Vice Chancellor, Guru Govind Singh World University, Fatehgarh Sahib along with Dr. Neena Seth Pajni, Principal, GPC, Alour, Khanna. Dr. Pawan Kumar, Scientist, DST, Govt. of India, was also present on the occasion.
SECAS II received an overwhelming response at Sirhind. Altogether in three days, more than 43,000 people including students from 87 different educational institutions visited SECAS II. On the last day of the halt, SECAS II recorded the highest number of total visitors (22,484), the highest number of general visitors (17,917) and the highest number of participants in Kids Zone (1,177), in a single day for any station, till date.
The complementary activities of SECAS II in Kids Zone, JOS Lab and at the Platform received very good participation. The team also conducted Teachers Orientation session on all the three days of halt at Sirhind, in which over 200 teachers participated.
SECAS II team celebrated the International Women’s’ Day on 8 March 2017, by conducting different activities in JOS Lab and at the Platform. The team showcased a documentary movie on ‘Women in context of Climate Change’ highlighting the theme ‘Be Bold for Change’. A special chart highlighting famous Women Scientists of India was prepared by the SECAS team and displayed for students and general visitors at the Platform. The team also discussed about ‘Climate Change and its impact on Women’. Besides, essay and poem writing competition were also held.
SECAS II team received immense support from Dr. Pawan Kumar, Scientist, DST, Govt. of India, in mobilizing the students and visitors at Sirhind station. Mr. Gurmeet Singh, Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Lecturer, Physics, and a team from Green Care Society, Meerut, Sirhind branch extended their support in conducting the Platform Activity and Teachers Orientation session. Mr. Parveen Jindal and Mr. Diday Singh, Deputy DEO, Fatehgarh Sahib, visited SECAS II and appreciated the efforts of the on-board team.
At Sirhind, SECAS II crossed 1.5 lakh total visitor’s mark.
After a successful three day halt at Sirhind, the team once again packed up and started their journey to the next station – Chandigarh.
